Our curriculum is designed to inspire enthusiasm for learning, to encourage respect for each other, to support pupil well-being and happiness and to celebrate the success of all learners.
We provide unique first-hand learning experiences that allow children to develop the necessary skills for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing that will positively impact them now and in the future. Our curriculum approach ensures we meet all statutory requirements regarding The Equality Act 2010 & Special Education Needs and Disability Regulation 2014. It is paramount that our curriculum is fully accessible to all children – where appropriate adaptations are made. Our children learn that in order to be successful, you must work hard, show resilience and have the determination to believe that anything can be achieved.
At Brentnall, our community is worldwide; we celebrate diversity and have developed a rich and varied menu of enhancement opportunities to engage learning and recognise the individuality of our learners.
Our curriculum enables us to build strong relationships, celebrate diversity, encourage respect and build a sense of community. It provides and acknowledges success for all children, in all aspects of their development and it recognises, encourages and celebrates all types of talent.
Teamwork and responsibility are an essential part of our curriculum and we enable children to take on key roles, becoming involved in the community, through celebration of local traditions, by learning new skills and enabling them to take an active part in events throughout the year.
Children leave Brentnall with a sense of belonging and are proud that they have developed the confidence and skills needed to be lifelong learners.
At Brentnall, our pupils follow the National Curriculum. This clearly sets out the objectives to be taught throughout Key Stage One (Year 1 & 2) and Key Stage Two (Year 3, 4, 5 & 6). Prior to this, the children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in our Nursery and Reception classes. The topics chosen in EYFS are based on children’s individual interests, the world around us and The Power of Reading current class book.
We have also included the subject long term curriculum overviews so that you can see the topics your child will study and how these link to the National Curriculum.
In Key Stage 1, we use the Read Write Inc. Phonics materials to teach reading and our children take home RWI reading books.
