At Brentnall we hope that at the end of their time with us pupils have developed a sense of creativity, are experimental and are not scared to make mistakes. Over their time with us we aim for pupils to learn to identify colour and technique, explain their like or dislike of different artforms and think outside the box. As well as having knowledge of specific art vocabulary and to be able to use this in a wide range of situations.
A high-quality art education should engage and inspire pupils to imagine and explore art in its various forms. It should take them to new places and be playful.
The National Curriculum for art aims to ensure that all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms
Here at Brentnall we aim to teach exciting art lessons through; the use of modern technology-where we can visit art museums virtually, a range of experiences from staff and the wider Brentnall community and by taking pupils to see art in person at local museums and art galleries. This links with using exciting topics during art lessons to engage and enthuse pupils. We also aim to ensure that during all practical art experiences children have the opportunity to engage with and develop knowledge of the key components; media & materials, method & techniques, processes, formal elements & principles of art and technical language.
